Activities
Guests are welcome to observe the day to day goings on around the property.
At certain times there will be cattle work such as mustering, drafting, branding, trapping feral cattle, the feeding out of supplementary licks, repairs and maintenance to waters, fences, yards etc, as well as implementation our fire management programme. It depends on the time of year as to what’s happening.
Merluna has a prolific birdlife of migrating and endemic birds and there are numerous waterholes and rainforest encroached creeks where hours can be spent bird watching.
There is also an abundance of wildlife including kangaroos, wallabies, dingoes, brumbies, reptiles of all sizes; such as skinks, frill necked lizards to the elusive saltwater crocodiles. The Cuscus has been seen on several occasions along the creek within walking distance of the camp grounds.
Then there’s the station pets - the dog, pigs, chooks, horses, and cattle, including Norman the bullock who’s unsure as to whether he’s human, horse or bullock at the moment.
For the artist whether you sketch, paint or photograph there’s something for everyone, while freshwater fishing for Barramundi, Catfish, Bream, Saratoga, or trapping Red Claw can be arranged.
4 Wheel driving on the station roads may be arranged with the MacLean’s. It depends on the conditions and workings on the station at the time.
When it's time to cool off, have a swim in the above-ground pool, with its timber deck overlooking a cleared area onto the lagoon where the wallabies often come in and graze.
Some activities will attract a fee. Costings are available at the Station.
